The Department of Pharmacology is one of the most important divisions in IMM, as well as one of the earliest nationally founded pharmacology disciplines in China. The department has always taken the first place in the Ministry of Education Key Disciplinary Assessment. It has long been noted as a standout in talent training, pharmacological research and novel drug development. It belongs to the second discipline of Ministry of Education authenticated key disciplines of pharmacy. It is also an important component of State Key Laboratory of Bioactive Substance and Function of Natural Medicine. Moreover, the department owns Beijing Key Laboratory of New Drug Mechanisms and Pharmacological Evaluation Study. It is recognized nationwide for its outstanding achievements in both basic and applied research.
There are 102 staff members in the department, including 17 full professors, 22 associate professors, 4 associate chief technicians, 38 assistant professors and 8 technicians, including 14 Ph.D. supervisors and 19 M.Sc. supervisors. It has a postdoctoral research station.
The research priorities of the department are drug development and mechanism study for major diseases, such as cancers, psycho- and neuro-disorders, cardio and cerebral vascular diseases, metabolic diseases, infectious diseases, and immune-disorders. The department has established a pharmacodynamic evaluation and mechanism study system for novel drugs that meets international standards, and has promoted basic and applied pharmacological research and the development and technological progress of the pharmacology industry in China.
