The State Key Laboratory of Bioactive Substance and Function of Natural Medicines (SKLBSFNM), was founded with the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2011. Professor Yu Shishan is the director of SKLBFNM. Professor Yu Dequan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, is honorary chairman of the academic committee of SKLBFNM. Professor YangBaofeng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, is chairing the academic committee.
The mission of the SKLBFNM is to focus on the development of innovative drugs for the treatment of major diseases. The main research fields of the SKLBSFNM are as follows: 1. Discovery of bioactive substances from natural medicines; 2. Druggability of bioactive substances from natural medicines; 3. Development of new technologies and methods for natural products research. Our efforts will also provide a scientific basis and technical support for the development and modernization of traditional Chinese medicines.
The SKLBFNM consists of a faculty of eighty-nine with an average age of 48, where backbone young researchers account for 40%. Sixty-one in the faculty are full professors and twelve are associate professors. Three professors are academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering; five professors got the National Sciences Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars; two professors won the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation for Science and Technology Progress Prize; ten professors were supported by the National high-level talent support program (including youth program), three professors got the National Sciences Foundation for Excellent Young Scholars.
The SKLBFNM has five research platforms, which work on discovery and structural characterization, structural optimization and druggability, molecular mechanism, pharmacokinetics, and new methods and technologies involved in bioactive substances of natural medicines.
