Research Interests
Research areas of Dr. Wang Yan's group are drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics and drug analysis, mainly focusing on the following aspects: 1. Research and application of key technologies in the interaction between the intestinal bacteria and natural drugs; 2. Biotransformation and pharmacokinetics of natural drugs and natural active ingredients; 3. In vivo metabolism and key technology development of polypeptide probe for early diagnosis of colorectal cancer.
Their recent research focuses on the interaction between natural drugs and the gut microbiota. It has been found that berberine can regulate blood lipid through nitroreductase of intestinal bacteria and individualized treatment, as well as the mechanism of reducing blood lipid by stimulating intestinal bacteria to produce butyric acid. They have elucidated that oral berberine could induce intestinal bacteria to synthesize dopa, increase the level of dopamine in brain, and improve Parkinson's disease. Additionally, they have revealed that the metabolite of active ingredient in Paeoniae Radix Alba transformed by intestinal carboxylesterase improves depression through the "gut brain" pathway. These studies have an important impact on the pharmaceutical research of intestinal bacteria.
