The CAMS Key Laboratory of Enzyme and Biocatalysis of Natural Drugs was established in 2018. The Laboratory consists of 10 staff members and 4 professors, and 4 associate professors , including 4 Ph.D. supervisors and 3 M.Sc. supervisors. They are working in field of enzymes and natural drug biocatalysis. The researchers of the laboratory have made great progress in their fields and applied for a number of patents, and published some scientific papers in top academic journals such asNature Chemistry, Nature Chemical Biology, Nature Communications, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemistry International Edition, ACS catalysis , etc ..
The research objective of the laboratory is to build the basic theory and key technology system of biocatalysis in molecular innovation, structure modification and optimization of bioactive natural products with enzymes as the core of the system to solve the two key scientific problems in the development of natural drugs, namely, the lack of medicine sources and the insufficient druggability. The system is constructed to meet the source and structural diversity of natural drugs in drug discovery and also provide theoretical and technical support for the development of natural drugs and expand the influence on other subjects.
The major research fields of the laboratory are as follows:
1) Discovery of novel enzymes, study of the enzyme’s structure, function and molecular evolution;
2) Designability, molecular innovation and structure optimization of bioactive natural products with complex structures; and
3) Research on new technology of enzyme and natural drug biocatalysis.
