The International Workshop on Natrual Products Chemistry, jointly held by the National Natural Fund Committee and the UK Royal Society of Chemistry, and organized by the State Key Laboratory of Bioactive Substance and Function of Natural Medicines, was successfully held in Shunyi District of Beijing from September 24thto 26th.
Academicians YU dequan, YAO Xinsheng, and SUN Handong were invited as honorary chairmen of the workshop, and Professor YU Shishan as chairman. The deputy director CHEN Yongjun, division chief DU Canping, deputy director general ZHENG Qiyu of the Chemistry Department of National Natural Fund Committee, director International Exchange Department Dr. , and Drs. ZHENG Chunxiao and International Exchange Department Dr. The workshop brought together 17 natural products chemists from 9 foreign countries including the UK, Brazil, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Kenya, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Vietnam, and 11 local junior natural products chemists.
Experts gave outstanding speeches from various research aspects including active natural products discovery and its function, the new technics and new methods of active natural products discovery, and biological and chemical synthesis of active natural products. All of the professionals, regardless nationalities, had confidence on the development of Natural Products Chemistry and agreed that the unearthing of active natural products will play a more and more important role in new drug discovery.The posters at the conference presented the latest progress of natural products chemistry studies at IMM. Experts, scientific research staffs of the State Key Laboratory of Bioactive Substance and Function of Natural Medicines, and over 100 graduate students participating in the conference had extensive discussions over the speeches and posters.The success of the conference played a positive role in establishing international exchange platform of natural products chemistry, understanding the international development trend of natural products chemistry, and developing new technology and new method of in natural product chemistry.
