Research Interests
Dr. Wang's group applies and develops modern pharmaceutical biotechnology, especially synthetic biotechnology, to carry out the design, biosynthesis and evaluation of chemical small molecules and biological macromolecules (e.g. peptides and proteins).
The group's research interests mainly include two aspects:
1. Biological technology of natural drug synthesis: using transcriptome and proteome technology to identify the functional elements involved in the biosynthesis of important natural drugs, and then to reconstruct the functional modules of natural drug synthesis pathway in microorganisms, assemble into multiple functional modules, and using the obtained engineering bacteria to prepare natural drugs or intermediates.
2. Research on oral polypeptide drugs: using protein mass spectrometry, molecular cloning and biosynthesis technology to discover natural active polypeptide drug molecules, using structurally stable protein as molecular skeleton to carry out protein engineering design, establish efficient yeast expression and purification process, and carry out innovative drug research. They have successfully identified the anti-enzymatic peptide molecular skeleton and achieved oral peptide administration with glucagon like peptide-1 as the model peptide drug.
